What is this little omni EV dynamic mic?

Post by Slider » Sat Jun 19, 2004 9:57 pm

I saw a little EV mic in a pawn shop for 28 bucks.

It said dynamic omni on it, but I can't remember the model number.
It wasn't a 635a.
It was smaller and thinner.
What is this??
Do you think it would be any good on anything?
Maybe I should just buy the thing and see.

small, thin, dynamic omni spells "lavalier" to me. Look like it maybe had some sorta lanyard attached to it so you could wear it around your neck/upper chest area? Some old lavalier's sound good, some are crappy, many are high impedence...mine are all Shure's of various models and only one has a sound I consider usable. I like old EV mics like the 635, but the high impedence EV's I have aren't much to rave about. Maybe $28 is worth a weird room mic (it IS an omni...)
I thought this club was for musicians. Who let the drummer in here??

I gots me a omni EV mic that looks identical to the 635a. It's the PL5. I don't really know what the difference is. If anyone could fill me in on that I would appreciate it. This probably isn't the mic you saw as it looks just like a 635.

I have an EV PL80 I've been using for years. It was given to me a long time ago, and I know nothing about it, except that it actually sounds quite good on bass cabs, kick drums, and clean electric guitar (when paired with something else). Has a very natural, mid-rangey sound.

How can you go wrong for $28? I just bought a 635A from ubertar. It rules the school :hearts:

But I was very much bothered with my work!

635a: awesome, even on a kick drum sometimes
PL10: little fatty, king of snare drum
666: kills a 57 on anything

I just got three ev 660s with the intention of selling two. Haven't had a chance to play with them much yet. Anyone used one? If you want one, pm me. They're super-cardioid, with variable-D goodness. Here's a spec sheet: www.k-bay106.com/e-v660.pdf

I was reading tape op issue eleven today as i waited for a train, and read a bit about the 666 in the letters page, wasn't the 666 of one of the brian wilson favourites? I thought they were ultra rare, or is that a reissue?

yeah i think the beach boys did a lot of vocals with the 666, and a lot of guitar with the 635a. as far as i know, the 666 is long out of production, but you can find them (approaching $200 each on average). maybe the tape op mentions are driving the price up. i love them though, and they're stylish to impress your clients. but what's the deal with akg d19s being so expensive? blah blah beatles blah blah.
