Alright, well, what records do you think sound horrible because they are so god damn loud - no dynamics? Check out the Trail of Dead Album "Source Tags and Codes". Put that on today for a minute, and man, horrible. Good ol' Masterdisk. But, hey, the new Lambchop albums sound great. Sorry, rambling. Which ones do you hate? 8) 8)

How about if you offer up something that sounds awful, you have to give something good too just like Frenchie did.

LOUDER than anything: anything by Nickelback
DYNAMIC: new Ben Kweller...think its called On my Way. beautiful...

LOUD: Zwan. compressed to snot, dead. is that what you're talking about?

DYNAMIC: The Decemberist's new one-song EP The Tain. a 20 minute song that's just an epic Celtic play retold. stunning.

Mars Volta....everytime it pops up in random itunes mode,, holy crap. And the worst part is, most of the songs are long, so I hardly make it through a song.

Slaves on Dope's new record.

Lo Pro's new record.

horribly loud as hell. all this trebly nasty harsh wash of sound. and almost no low end. they lower the low end to get a high volume. thats stupid! low end is where its at! hiphop just further proofs that fact. low end makes you move. and low end literally moves you - if you have decent subs.

volume should not be king. maybe queen. maybe even jack. but definitely not king.

You beat me to it.

The last At The Drive-In album (Relationship of Commmand) is almost the same way, especially when compared to in/casino/out and Vaya.

The Dead Low Tide album is also way too loud, but I believe that only 10 people know who they are [were], so it doesn't really matter.

The thing that I don't like about Source Tags & Codes is that there is almost no low-end to the bass parts.

Oh and i guess I didn't suggest a good one.

DYNAMIC: The new Detachment Kit album struck me as sounding pretty good, but I've only listened to it a few times so far.

almost every rock song ive heard on mtv for the last few months all sound exactly the same to me. it's as if the same exact person mastered all of it to sound the same. and, yes they all sound like shit in the way this thread is referring to.

they all have this gross wishy splashy distorted treble thing goin on. eww! i hate it.

The fire thef new album CLIPS. cosntantly. CONSTANTLY. it's annoying as shit. Up to 20-30 samples at a time like blocks. It buzzes and pops. Such great songs, but man, who did they let work on this? And di they do it on 50 cent headphones?

ironically the subject of this thread is asking about records. i dont recall ever hearing a record with these particular issues. not trying to be pedantic, just an observation.

It's true when compared to the other two, but i wouldn't say it was unbearable, i just love that record too much.

I went out and picked up the new unicorns cd after reading about it on this very board.

BAD: too loud. way too much treble.

GOOD: the songs are awesome and they get some really awesome guitar and synth sounds. It totally makes up for the crappy mastering.

First thing that came to mind was Converge's Jane Doe. There are so many weird things going on in the high end of that record. Could be the insane distortion on the vocals, but damn, that shit hurts after awhile. Which is too bad cause that band is pretty rad, and the engineer is pretty good. Hmmm. Not sure who mastered it.
