Is this sad, or nerd awesome?

Post by 24Farrington » Wed Jun 23, 2004 6:32 am

I forget when it happened, but I had a dream about the tape op message board. Probably a night or two ago. I think I was just browsing the board (in my dream) and then I was magically whisked away to the tape op convention. All I can remember is TapeOpHillary was there because I remember seeing her hair, except it was even longer than it is in the picture, but just as cool. It was just really odd, because it was everyone sitting on the floor in a small room just talking about recording.

So anyways, maybe I should get a job where I don't have to sit in front of a computer, in a cube, browsing the internet 40 hours a week. There's only so much to surf. God damn.

I bet productivity in the global workforce has taken a substantial hit due to the amount of time we collectively spend here.

I know it's helped me be a lazier employee.

last job I had, I was so bored and surfing the web so much, I was convinced I had read *everything* on the internet.

Believe me guys, I would quit my day job in a second...but then I wouldn't have money to buy all these wonderful audio/guitar toys. Not to mention that my girlfriend can't find work and I'm currently supporting her.

Why can't we just get paid to hang out and play music all day? I eat lunch everyday with a fellow graduate of a recording school and it seems like every lunch hour chat topic begins and ends with said question.

On the other end of things, I am very greatful to at least have a job right now. The economy sucks, but I'm able to support myself, make my student loan payments, take care of bills, save money to support my gear lust, etc. I also work M-F 8-4, so I'm free to gig at night and on the weekends. That and I'm finally getting benefits, so there's another 200 dollars a month I don't have to worry about.

Life's ok I guess, but weezy's right. I totally need some excersize. :)

Oh, so you were at TapeOpCon!

Actually, that kind if discussion did happen, as well as sitting in some larger rooms, and a glorious theatre! And later, the cool club(s) and resturants...

Ha ha I think that's nerd awesome. I had a dream last night that I was sitting at a bar arguing with Joel H. (who I've not met in person) about how to swing 16th notes. I can't logically explain what the opposing sides of the argument were, I just know it was a heated conversation, and I was ready to beatbox my example of straight vs swung 16th notes.

Well, at least I'm not the only one. That's pretty hilarious.

Well, in some of the smaller panels, when there were not enough chairs, some of us had to park it on the floor. I sat behind a column on the floor for the whole of the Home Recording panel.

How's this for nerd awesome. A few weeks ago, I had just come off the board reading the post about the sprite commercial and that little guy with lebron james and how their voices don't match up and how it's bad mixing.
Well, my girlfriend thinks I'm a nerd enough for watching Aqua Teen Hunger Force every night almost religiously, but when that commercial came on imagine the look on her and her roommates faces when I tried to explain to them how you could hear the kitchen reverberance in Lebrons voice and not in that little toys voice. They both at first were confused, as if they couldn't understand how anyone could notice that. Now they just make fun of me every time that commercial comes on.

So I made this little rule.

What happens on TapeOp, stays on TapeOp.

The normals just don't understand.

yeah what's the deal with girlfriends anyway? everytime she see's me on this site, she's like (in snickering voice) "oh, chatting with your little tapeop friends?" well, duh! what other site looks like this. and it happens quite often considering i spend about 25% of my waking hours reading the messageboard. but then she turns around and reads the TV messageboards. hello? a messageboard about TV?! like watching TV isn't retarded enough, but then go discuss it on the internet. who's lame now. iguess we both are
