Will covering Soundboard in fabric change it's purpose
Will covering Soundboard in fabric change it's purpose
The stuff is kind of messy and I don't want to worry about it shedding everywhere. It won't hurt if I were to cover it would it? Is there a certain type of material that would be better to cover it with?

You want to choose a very porous material, preferably natural fiber that will allow high end to easily pass through it. Burlap can be kind of ugly, but sonicly a good choice.dc11 wrote:The stuff is kind of messy and I don't want to worry about it shedding everywhere. It won't hurt if I were to cover it would it? If you can blow air through the fabric, it will work.

most importantly is to make sure the threadcount is tight enough to prevent the fibers of your "soundboard" from raining down onto you and your gear over time.
i've seen canvas, muslin (super thin) and a felt type of material all work well.

Guilford of Maine has some good stuff but a tad bit on the expensive side, compared to burlap.
Your bass sounds like a wet noodle.....

I work at an art school, and muslin is everywhere. We put some up on the ceiling in our basement where we practice/record, and it seems to be fine. Of course, I have lead ears, so maybe it actually sounds shitty, but I didn't notice anything.
We also got this stuff to spray on it to make it fireproof, which makes it a little weird to the touch (like sticky) but since it's on the ceiling we don't touch it very much. Unless we are dancing on the ceiling.

Cool. Thanks for the info. Just carrying it into my place made me almost sick. I've been a little congested all day. The stuff is really flaky, so shit breaks off easy. I'll bet if I had a powerful vacum, I could suckup a whole sheet
