computer hardware/software recording question
computer hardware/software recording question
For a pc with two hard drives running at at least 7200 rpm, tons of ram/memory, would an m-audio delta 66 card w/ their 4 in/4 out breakout box work well with cubase sx? I would be recording my own stuff similar to tristeza & the album leaf, and other people's music. Nothing complicated. Probably rarely over 16 tracks. And rarely over two tracks recording simultaneously. let me know if you need even more info. from me to give a good answer. thanks.

How fast is your processor? If it's at least 1gHz, you're probably fine given that you have 512MB of RAM or more. You could probably get by with less than that, if you're only doing 16 tracks and recording 2 or less at a time.
I have a PC with a 1.2gHz AMD and 512MB of RAM using Cubase SX and haven't had a problem with 24 tracks. I'm not using a lot of plugins, though. Obviously, the more plugins you use, the more of the computer's horsepower they'll need.
I'd recommend downloading the Cubase SX demo (http://service.steinberg.de/webdoc_ps_i ... _pro_pc_en) and seeing if it works for your needs.

Should be no prob. In fact, you could probably get by with a PII300 or better, assuming you set the PC up right. The Cubase forums will get you a lot of great info on how to streamline an OS (Windows, yes?) for this purpose.

I use a an M-Audio Delta 1010 with Cubase SX and have had absolutlely no problems. Ultimataly I would like to get something with better D/A converters like a Apogee Rosetta, but there is a huge price jump there. The 66 is good choice if you don't need to many inputs/outputs.
