Achtung Baby

Post by Zygomorph » Mon Nov 29, 2004 1:26 pm

I've been listening to this record lately and I really REALLY like the way it sounds. I should one day hope to have such subtle control over reverb!

Also, some of Brian Eno's sounds turn me on like nothing else. I would also like to make the point that the subtlety and beauty of the sounds would be completely destroyed if everything were competing to occupy the same dry and overcompressed space...

And it's not physically painful to listen to! (Unlike the first Weezer album, which I listened to directly afterwards to compare engineering, but I suppose it's kind of like apples and oranges...I'm working with a random and limted record collection here.)

Ideas?

hi,

I'm the only person who likes u2 here.

That reverb sound? That's the sound of us talking to each other, alone, in a huge, huge room.

Every other fan has already left the building.

Hey, I like some of U2s stuff, so I'm with yah... Three voices echoing in a large empty hall is better than one or two right... :)
When in doubt, try it anyway... it just might work.

I like U2 alot. And I think Achtung Baby is a kick ass album.

I know a lot of guys here don't like U2 but fuck 'em. That's the biggest horseshit I've ever heard anyway...if you've heard the arguments. There are quite a few artists the Elite bring up here they tout as brilliant and I think the music actually sucks. So, go figure.

U2 is an amazing group and Achtung Baby has an incredibly interesting sound. I have no idea how some of those sounds were engineered.

no way man. achtung baby is one of my all time favorite records ever. i total production masterpiece in my opinion. hearing the eq sweeps on 'till the end of the world' blew my mind way back when. and shit, it's worth the price of admission just for adam clayton's entrance on 'trying to throw your arms...'

hell i even like zooropa!

Wow, there were so many posts about "Man this CD by _____________ really sounds like shit! or Man, ___________ band sucks!" I was starting to refer to this messageboard as sourgrapes.com

I too love U2, think they are incredibly talented. I love Achtung Baby as well. Great sounds, great songs...

I love the new CD as well and think it sounds great. Once again, great songs, great sounds.

I have a theory about Zooropa and U2. I'm of the persuasion that if any other band, especially some 'up and coming', wrote Zooropa then it would have been hailed as a "fantastic and adventerous record with a depth that far surpasses their years, keep your eye on this band as they may be the next U2!"
Instead U2 made it and people thought it wasn't good enough and they wanted something else please, so it get's panned as a half-rate U2 album with a tour that has more positive attention given to it than the record it is promoting.

Count me as another one. I've never been a big U2 fan, but I think Achtung Baby is an AMAZING record. It's been a huge influence on me personally.

I am not really a U2 fan, but I really like Achtung Baby. Usually Bono's voice drives me crazy, too breathy, but that album is a good one.
I know enough to know that I don't know what I am doing.
