You should be able to get a super fast attack by doing it in the box with a look ahead compressor. However your way might be more fun or sonically interesting.

I've done this before. It's an old trick. It works really well on room mics and overheads. And you can get away with more extreme compression. You'll have to play around with it to dial it in but it's a cool trick.

Take it one step further. Fiip the tape over and compress the track while it's playing in reverse. Print the reverse compressed signal. When this track is played forward, the compression has zero attack time.

if you flip the tape and record "paul is dead miss him miss him" when you play it forward, does that make it satanic?
