Soundelux mic comparisons

Post by soundguy » Fri May 16, 2003 12:40 pm

I think my tube mic purchase has to wait for a bit. Im stuck between a pair of Soundelux Ifet7 and U195. Of course, I havent heard either, but the client is requesting this flavor, which is fine with me, I dont imagine that either woudl totally suck.

While Im sure they are both great on many things, the primary focus for these mics will be drum kit. I dont care what they do on vocals, or guitar cabs, blah blah, just a drum kit.

Has anyone used both? any words one way or another?

Seems like the U195 should approximate the Ifet7 in I mode. Looking at the frequency response of both mics, the 195 has a 6dB spike past 10K, which could kinda suck for cymbal hash, but those charts dont typically amount to much in reality anyway...

Anyone used both?

dont you wish stores sold the gear you want so you could hear this stuff.

argh..

I've got a U195 that I absolutely love. It has become my go-to kick drum mic. The "fat" switch is awesome, you can really add some low thump to a kick (or bass). I've used mine on kick, bass guitar, elec. guitar, acoustic, vox, piano. It doesn't always work for every application but it does sound good and well worth the price. If you like to use a U47 fet then you'll like this mic.

Never used the iFet so no help there.

I own a Soundelux ELUX 251 that I use as my own personal vocal mic. It rocks. If I were choosing between the U195 and the ifet47, I would prolly go for the ifet47.
