EV655C

Post by kRza. » Sat Nov 29, 2003 6:10 pm

got one? Whaddya use 'em for? I just picked up one today & it's a tad smaller than the 666 but works great. The guy who sold it to me had no idea about it and there's nada online about it.
I'm thinking vocal - was hoping kick but looks like the diapham may be a tad small - might work out though. Give it some bite?
anyone?

Not aware of a 655, but if it's:

Olive drab in color?

Hinged clip directly attached to base?

Screw in the middle of the grill?

It must be a 665 which looks almost identical to the 666. Creamy mic that it is, great for guitar cabs, drums and possible over the kit. Enjoy, it's chunk city.

it is olive drab in color - but not the hinged w/ screw bottom. It's a long straight mic with a strange xlr at the end. Sorta flat on one side so you gotta RAM an xlr cable past the top - but it works & is sort of omni-directional?
See - it's a lot thinner than the 666 or 665. I've seen those. But this is a strange guy.

Can you post a picture of it? I, too thought it was the 665.. and then I would've said good on guitar, bass, kick...

I just saw this mic listed on the back of the new Sundazed lp reissue of Johnny Cash's "Blood Sweat Tears" album (1962). I had never heard of this model either. A google search revealed that it was often used to mic upright bass in the early 60's. It is an omni dynamic and probably somewhat related to the 635a.

yeah - looks sorta like that except its kinda army greenish, there's no swivel hinge at the bottom and the cable doesn't come out like that.
I don't have my digital cam - but here a shitty pic I found online. I'm guessing that it was mainly used for vocal stuff.

i have a 646, similar, a little smaller. just picked it up recently so it hasn't been through the ringer yet. i tried it as an OH, it was cool, pretty vibey sounding. i'd imagine vocals are your best bet. i've had 664s work well on male vocals in the past, a little less hi-fi than your usual vocal mic, but can be the perfect thing.

Note to our American friends.

Fanny doesn't mean the same thing over here as it does over there.

Same general area though
