"voted" the one and only mic to have on an island

according to that silly ebay auction, the seller says the EV RE-20 was "Voted the one mic most enginners would have on an island if they were only allowed to have one." hahahaha! when was this voted on? did they offer this on the ballots at the polls alongside the last senate elections?

i'm sorry, i'm not saying anything about the mic, i know it's a great mic, i just think it's funny he throws in this crazy statement (with no supporting evidence) that the mic was voted on as the one mic to have on an island if you couldn't have any other mic. what kind of silly voting is this anyway? did he cast this election between his friends? ;) or did he survey EV employees only?

heheheh... if i were stranded on an island i think i'd rather have instruments than a mic.

it is known as the "broadcaster's mic" so maybe they were thinking more along survival terms when they named it 'only mic to have on an island'. Perhaps you could broadcast your location over the airwaves and some plane flying ahead would hear it and rescuse you. Just a thought.

If you needed a mic to crack coconuts with, an RE-20 would probably be a good choice.

Not quite as effective as an EV 664 though...

If I was stuck on a goddamn island, I think recording would be one of the last things on my mind. Not dying would probably take priority.

Yeah, I know, quit taking things so literally, asswipe...

He's taken that quote from the end of a sound on sound review, where at the end the editor decribes a certain mic,"cant remember which one" as being the one that he would choose if he was stuck on a desert island.

Isn't this the vocal mic Peter Gabriel is using in the photo in the latest TapeOp?

If that's what's used for Gabriel's vocals on SO, that's a pretty good testament to me (although who knows what else is in the audio chain?).

I think that my RE-20 is a good all around mic to have (island or not). Not always the best but never a bad choice.
