The Twin REVERB is the unquestioned master of the amp universe. Well, for my money.
I have a Twin, wish I had a Twin Reverb.

My setup: brain into muscles into hands into fingers into guitar into cable into pedal into cable into amp into air into mic into cable into box no 1 into cable into box no2

When in Fenderland, I am a Deluxe man--so I vote AC30. Not that I can afford one. Also stompboxes sound better through the Vox. At least when I tested them that way at the guitar store.

I use both and I say that the AC30 rules the school. I disagree that pedals sound great through it though. The beauty of the AC30 is that it needs no pedals because it sounds so great!
Only certain pedals sound good through my ac30, and most of them are "clean boost" pedals.

Ah, good question. That would be the JCM 800.AstroDan wrote:I mean Universe. Which one rules the Universe. Sorry.

AC-30 no question.
And as far as Fender amps go I'd have to say Vibrolux reverbs smoke Twins.

Did I say that? Sir, I did not. They sound better than they do through a Twin, though. At least in my limited experience.Rodgre wrote:I disagree that pedals sound great through it though.
Since I don't have an AC30.

Re: Vox AC30 or Fender Twin...
Okay then.... For some reason, Fenders seem to be way more forgiving of pedals. Probably moreso than any other amp. Voxes and Matchless and other "Classic Class A" designs tend to be really finicky about pedals. They tend to show the graininess in some overdrives.
By the same token, some Fenders can get flubby really fast if you've got too much bottom end going into them.
Cranking a Vox up and hitting a nice full chord sounds awesome to my ears. There is dirt and sustain, but there is also a chimey clarity that keeps things detailed sounding. That's what I love about Voxes. That and how fookin' cool they look!

AC-30! It's all about the skinny knobs on top and the diamond grill pattern. Kinda churchy looking, almost like a Victorian-era amplifier, great for psychedelic music. Great with matching outfits, great if you stack up a wall of 'em, looks great sitting there with a bunch of hi-tech gear around it -- totally cool.

True, but can be fixed with a different speaker. I just got a Weber Blue Dog for my Deluxe Reverb, no more farting out!Rodgre wrote: By the same token, some Fenders can get flubby really fast if you've got too much bottom end going into them.
As far as a Selmer Zodiac, is that the one with the push button tone controls? If so I've played one of those, and never would I have thought that a hokey idea like that would work so well.

Yeah, the Zodiac has the crazy push button tone controls, and some of them even had a blinking light on the front that indicates the tremelo speed! Such technology!
