My strange new mic technique for acoustic guitar
My strange new mic technique for acoustic guitar
Leaning over my dreadnaught, there is considerable space on my lap behind the body of the guitar....so i figure what the hell, stick a Oktava 219 in there and see what happens. I blend it in with a 57 about 6 inches away aimed below the soundhole and it balances really well! Dark-ish, but good definition and complexity. Each mic panned hard each way got some tasty phase wierdness, but no cancellation.

Hmmm. I'll have to try that. What kind of dreadnought is it? I've found that a place where a mic would often sound good, but is nearly impossible to do, is right about where my head sits on my shoulders. Maybe if I lean down and kiss the twelfth fret while playing, that would work. . .

it's a rather middy-bright maple dreadnught. kindofa one off thing. i failed to note that the condenser was pointed face-up on my lap.

I'll have to give this a whirl.
I am wangtacular.
Re: My strange new mic technique for acoustic guitar
I always was led to believe that Maple bodied guitars were not good for recording, so I never gave one serious consideration, until I got a Hold of the Jumbo Bodied Maple Washburn I have been using and enjoying lately, Puta Maggie, goes to show what listening to rumours will get you, this punk is PHATer and sweeter than a Whole Sackfull of Mo Fo's

Try that with a 20 lb. condensor mic.
Re: My strange new mic technique for acoustic guitar
sorry to jump in on your thread here - but how do you guys deal with recording an acoustic while the singer is singing? every time i've recorded acoustic, it's been as an overdub and by itself, but i have a project coming up where the dude wants to play/sing at the same time. (that sounds like a bad idea to me - but, what do i know...) the guy i'm recording is more of a bedroom musician, so this will be his most "professional" recording experience to date (i use that term loosely). do i keep him in his element to get a better performance? do i make him break it up to make the individual sounds better? do i bring a bottle of whiskey and lots of cocaine?
thanks,
