OK, so every board needs at least one thread going about the RNP, so I thought I'd help inaugerate the new board with one.
Definative proof the RNP rocks: I was trying out an old EV 664 (dynamic) mic close on a kick drum. Running through a pre on a Spirit M12 - sounded like flat floppy ass. Running through a Meekbox - better definition, but still the sound was pretty floppy. But the RNP showed 'em both what headroom is all about. It had such a punchy sound, in that thuddy EV 664 way. Given the qualities of the mic, it wasn't a low wallop of a kick sound, but I liked it nonetheless. But as an experiment of what the different pre's could dish out, it was very enlightening. And I have the sound files to prove it!

Re: Baby's First RNP Thread
Now that you have the RNP do you ever use the pres on the M12?
Re: Baby's First RNP Thread
I'll post some aiff samples when I get a minute.
I still use the M12's pre's when I have to (tracking more than 2 signals at a time), but I think I'd use the RNP whenever I could. I haven't done a ton of side-by-side comparisons with it yet, so it's possible I'd like the M12 better on some stuff. So far, though, I doubt I would. When I first tried a vocal take with the RNP, I finally got that feeling of the vocal projecting OUT of the speaker, instead of living somewhere behind the speaker.

dont forget to post the same source thru the spirit
Re: Baby's First RNP Thread
Yeah, I was thinking of just sticking the 3 pre's in a row in a single soundfile, with a "now turn the page"-style ding between each pre. Although you can certainly tell just by the sound when it changes...
