RIP Joe Morello
Can't believe I'm the first to post this but the story seems to have been lost in all the bad news out of Japan.
Joe Morello, drummer with the Dave Brubeck Quartet and the man behind one of the best drum recordings ever died Saturday at 82.
RIP Joe.

Damn. I love Joe's playing and am sorry I never got to see him play. They had his Ludwig kit (THE "Take Five" kit) at Maxwell's in NYC last year and I rubbed my grubby hands all over that thing. It's really surprising this hasn't been bigger news, since "Take Five" was such an iconic jazz tune. My trio gets more requests to play that than any other song (although "Impanema" is a close second). I always thought that it was great that one of the most identifyable jazz "hits" for public consumption was both in 5/4 and included a drum solo.

...back in high school
I was lucky enough to attend a weekend clinic back in high school and one of the sessions was with Joe. He was amazing. His eyesight was going but once behind the kit he was swingin'!
