RIP Stompin' Tom Conners

Post by A.David.MacKinnon » Thu Mar 07, 2013 10:12 am

This probably won't mean much to people outside of Canada but it's a pretty big loss here. In Canada Stompin' Tom is like Woody Guthrie and Hank Williams rolled into one. He was DIY before DIY existed and a star when there was no Canadian music industry to speak of.

Thanks ADM... I live just across the border, and there's always something new to learn.

RIP Stompin' Tom. He looked a bit like Hugh Hefner, but sounded a bit like Johnny Cash.

Aw man... I got introduced to Stompin' Tom years ago now by some friends. He has some great great songs. And what a character. My wife and I honeymooned in PEI in '98, and he just happened to be playing in Charlottetown when we were there, so I got to see him once. Awesome. I always thought there was a some johnny cash rolled into him in addition to woody and hank...

Oh man, I found stompin Toms schoolhouse by accident one day while driving around the island (we know which one).

A short distance from my cottage in New Brunnie. I would never have even known about him.

A great loss.
