Fishing for an ME...

Post by kung_fu_elvis » Fri Jan 21, 2011 4:46 pm

Good day all, not a frequent poster, but a daily reader...

I'm coming down to the last days of mixing my new record, so I figured I'd start here by putting out some feelers for someone to do the mastering on this project...

The album is singer-songwriter based (full band) with psychedelic flourishes...

I guess Yankee Hotel Foxtrot meets Neil Young with a touch of the Weakerthans... alt-country with teeth, if you will.

Mostly I'm looking for someone that these sorts of sounds appeal to...

Feel free to sound off here, or hit me up with a PM, let me know rates, and any other considerations.

I would recommend More Space Echo here from the board. He just mastered my bands new album and did a hell of a great job!

Second for Scott Craggs. Dude is just REALLY, REALLY good and extremely reasonable in his pricing.

I should also add that he's really good with natural-sounding recordings, acoustic instruments, and stuff with twangy guitars, which I imagine ought to fit at least some of the bill for "alt-country with teeth."

Third for Scott. Most of the good things I was going to say have already been said, so I'll add that he's great in the communication/customer service department too.

there is a project I am working on now that, if budget allows, I was hoping to send MSE's way as well. All the bandcamp and other links for things he has mastered that I haved checked out sound really balanced and translated well on computer speakers, my studio speakers, and in my car from an iPod. Not easy to do with shoegaze (roh delikat).

I downloaded the 1st track and threw it on my ipod. It sounds really good in my car, which has a dirty bastard of a stereo, and bass almost alway sounds weird....especailly on my mixes. :?

+ 4(?) for craggs.

all of my stuff goes to him or jay frigoletto if I have any influence on an artists' decision.

both kill at their craft. both super nice fellers. craggs gets extra points for being a fan of The Friendly Toast.

I've had nothing but great experiences with Dave Gardner and Bruce Templeton at Magneto Mastering here in Minneapolis and with Carl Saff in Chicago...

Carl is very good at what he does. I've sent him everything from bluesy singer-songwriter stuff, to hardcore punk, and been very happy with the results.

Rates are crazy reasonable too.
