Okay, December 8th. I can handle that. At that point, will we all send our versions to herr mjau? Or will we just each make a final post stating how our project went? Will we each attempt mastering for our own contributions? Could we possibly set up an ftp site somewhere so as to exchange our masterworks? Etc.

My version is nothing like the original, FWIW.

mine will just have slight stereo buss compression, but heavy eq, to get that rolled off sound of the original, but it won't be "maxxed out" loudness

Yeah, I think so. I can render any .wav into 16/44.1k for a cd ultimately.
As for mastering, probably best to do your own (or none at all), unless we have a wealthy benefactor who wants to pay for some real mastering.

I am generally not to be trusted with mastering, especially in those early winter months when my earwax reaches its peak. Nonetheless, I have six more weeks to fuss over it and I will do my best, comrades.

If all else fails I will use the myspace streaming player as a makeshift mastering device.

idd rather not master at all as well if possible..

unless we can all agree on certain safe and not very detectable settings for the PSP warmifier (which everyone seems to have) and use it so that the stuff ends up with more or less matching volumes? i dunno..just thinking out loud..

I will not do any post mix processing ('mastering'). I'll mix it to the best of my ability, and with the dynamics and volume that I think are appropriate.

That's that. I'm not qualified to be mastering anyone's work, let alone my OWN!

MJAU & MikeyC!

Post by thereminman » Wed Oct 25, 2006 9:43 am

Hey Folks,
I've got a BB cover that I did a little while back .
It's a version of (mostly) With Me Tonight...but it sort of medley's into
Little Pad for a bit (Mikey C's choice) and even for a couple of seconds into an instrumental bridge of Good Vibrations .
Would this be uncool and encroaching on MikeyC's fun?
I'd be into contributing it if you think it would add to the fun.
(I'm sure it would be a bit of different take, as the little pad bit is a
theremin-ey bit of fun)
[and the track even uses the much maligned AKG CS-1000 on a few things!]

cool! there's a lot to really sink your teeth into on that one.

i'm enlisting my brother to help out, so we'll start recording over thanksgiving when he's back in the area. (we'll be doing "feel flows" as i mentioned a while back). as far as the mastering topic goes, i'm just going to try to get it sounding as good as i can and at a reasonable volume. this should be lots of fun!

No problem here... I have yet to get started on it, and I'm actually starting to think about trying a creepy version of Kokomo. Maybe I could weave the two together. We'll see.
I think the medley could be cool-- Smile has a lot of recurring themes anyway, so what's wrong with having Little Pad show up now and again?

alright Mikey C!
Thanks for the friendly reply.
Yes, I think that Smile-weaving-of-the-themes was what I was thinking as well---and bringing in Kokomo? Oh man, that's an evil genius thing to try!

Ok then Tape Op folks, sign me up for a With Me Tonight/Little Pad medley.
