I'm partial to Dissent a little more just 'cause...I like Jason's voice the best, and I think that (sonically) it's the perfect blend of rawness and "polish" for metal: it doesn't sound too slick or thin (or too cloudy, like far too much death metal does), but it doesn't have any comprimises in sound either. Everything is totally present and perfectly clear, and yet it doesn't sacrifice any intensity or heaviness.Recycled_Brains wrote:awesome. a very close 2nd to "Overthrow" IMO though. all the stuff they did with Kevin Talley on drums is unstopable. just got the newer one, "discordia"... blegh. pretty boring. drums sound aweful. has it's moments, but doesn't measure up to earlier stuff. it has less of the crust-punk/grind vibe that makes them so good.Misery Index - Dissent

I was disappointed by Dischordia at first, but it slowly grew on me (I just recently decided that I liked it enough to buy the vinyl, and that was a noticable improvement). Sonically it doesn't come close to touching what they did before, but the songs are there (a little different, but there) IMO. Breathing Pestilence especially is awesome, and I like that they're switching it up a little and playing some slower stuff. But yeah, the drums sound awful (and I'm not sure how that was managed; their new drummer sounds amazing live), and the guitars seem kinda "wide" and thin for MI. I think they're just going for a more straight-up/"typical" death metal sound...have you heard the Hang 'em High 7"?
