I'm pretty sure it was KISS--Destroyer on LP. I was seven or eight.

this may not be first, but it's one of them.

GI Joe and the Secret Of The Mummy's Tomb. Came with a comic book, and I got it for christmas when i was learning how to read.

Some guy did an animation for it, which is amazing:

I think the first one where I went to a store with my own money was Ghost in the Machine on vinyl.
But the first music I ever owned was a gift. It was a cassette of Madness' Complete Madness. I'd been inspired by seeing the video for "Welcome to the House Of Fun" on MTV and my folks got it for me for Christmas.
Prog out with your cog out.

Man....that G.I. Joe Youtube animation is waaaay beyond awesome. I love it!

I had some random records when I was a youngster, played through my Mattel record player much like the one featured in the intro of the G.I. Joe Youtube film, but the first record that I bought on my own -with my own money, was Billy Thorpe's 'Children of the Sun'. I actually re-purchased this from the dollar bins a few years ago...just for nostalgia's sake.

Cassette: Motley Crue - Dr. Feelgood
CD: No Code by Pearl Jam, followed shortly by Siamese Dream by the Smashing Pumpkins..

I was quite the late convert, having built quite a formidable cassette collection by 1995. :)

Circa 1974-75, whilst in Junior High, to be played in my bedroom on a monophonic monolithic Sears portable record player:

But before all of that (maybe 5-8 years old), back int he actual 60's I believe my first purchase was a 45 of one of the best cheezy pop songs ever recorded:

First cassette bought for me - Slippery when wet (Bon Jovi of course)

First CD (also bought for me) - Pink Floyd - the wall

First cassette I bought myself - Beastie Boys license to ill

First CD I bought myself - Warrant - cherry pie

I'm not sure about the first cassette bought for me, since I'm not counting a few tapes I had when I was a toddler and some I inherited from my uncle (scorpions, dio, and other tasty morsels)
tear out your heart and make them wear it around their neck so they'll understand

The first tape I bought with my own money was a K-Tel complilation called "Electric Breakdance". It inclueded a poster that showed you several different breakdance moves, which I immediately put on my bedroom wall. It had "Jam on It" by Newcleus, "White Lines (Don't Do It)" by Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five and "Rockit", to name a few.

Second tape I bought was the ubiquitous "Thriller".

I bought about 3 or 4 CDs at the same time I bought my first CD player (a 2nd generation Sony Discman for $249.99 in 1989), and I think they were "Brothers in Arms" by Dire Straits, "The Innocents" by Erasure, and either "Upstairs at Eric's" by the Yaz or "Introspective" by Pet Shop Boys.
