Halftime show... The Who

Post by JWL » Sun Feb 07, 2010 11:39 pm

What did people think of the Who's performance?

Did anyone notice the "help" Daltrey had for the big scream in Won't Get Fooled Again? SERIOUSLY cheeseball reverb patch, way overdone, but at least it was just for that one note....

What was the point of the second guitarist? He was not in the mix at all far as I could tell...

As far as I can tell the whole thing was Pete and a backing track.

I was at a party where they were actually interested in the game, so I couldn't hear much, but I do remember thinking the mix was bad at first - BV burying the lead - but then it seemed okay later. I may not have heard anything "right", though. Volume on the TV (who doesn't have some sort of surround system on their TV these day?! C'mon, Ray!) couldn't cover up the people discussing the game.
If you're not prepared to look stupid, nothing great is ever gonna happen.

I thought it was pretty decent but I did notice a pretty big flub by Roger in the very beginning.

I thought it was ok. Daltry was stuggling to hit some notes but that seems to be the norm with older rock singers. The mix was crap, but that's pretty much the norm for tv as well.

I saw at least two moments where Rog's mouth didn't match what was supposedly coming out of it. I am not exactly sure what to conclude; since his voice was really rough on the first number and then got better--so did he just warm up a bit, or did they just bail on the live vocal at some point and go to the tape?

Hmm. I wasn't watching that closely. And I didn't watch the whole thing anyway. That would be funny.

The tempos all seemed slow to me.

I believe there were problems with the audio/video sync in general. I thought the same thing at first, though. I also loved the very loud "Godammit!" that somebody said that got through after an incomplete pass.

Which would explain why the drummer looked like he was drumming with wet noodles the whole time.

That's better than the norm. The Boss's halftime show was totally tracked.
