I recorded and mixed on the 488, with the exception of the first track, which i handed over to my friend brian straw to mix. Export process isn't too bad once you figure out the trick to getting all 8 tracks at once:swelle wrote:Mikey, did you mix these on the 488? Or do the laborious export process? Curious about your tracking setup as well...

i can post more on tracking later but it was REAL basic: one mic (at4033) on drums, a pair of rode nt5's on piano, and a EV20 for scratch vox and guitar, some of which i kept. the rest was overdubbed in various places and mostly those same mics.
We used TWO mics on the drums, a tube condenser floating over the kick and a Heil mic inside the kick.. both bussed to one track. The kick is way too loud but nothing can be done about that now!!
I'm happy to commit to 8 tracks while recording, but I do like the flexibility of mixing in the computer... While I don't actually do any mixing, it's nice to be able to request little tweaks and fixes, as well as spot compressing things without having to do the whole track.. and sending out sample mixes to all the band members. The best of both worlds: all the wretched noise of an aging, mechanical tape deck combined with the flawless accuracy of modern computing!
