beach boys - 'dont talk put your head on my shoulder' is one of the few melodies that still gives me the same feeling it did the first time i heard it.

Astrodan, is that a "wreck of the John B. reference."

Well "Sicut Cervus" by Palestrina has already lasted like a thousand years, as has "Sumer is Icumen In" (the earliest work of polyphony) and hundreds of chants. I would bet they'll last.

Bach's Cello Suites are another good bet, although I would believe that the cello might not last 1000.

"Yesterday" is a good bet from now-a-days. Anything associated with a super important movie is a good bet - maybe the theme to Jaws.

Miles Davis Kind of Blue should last, along with Lush Life or something.

Seconded on both counts.
I just listened to that song today for the first time in a while and realized why I like that one Coldplay song so much - they ripped off Kraftwerk's melody note for note! If someone does this every decade of so, the melody should easily survive for 1000 years. I hope the Kraftwerk guys are getting royalties for that.

"Ring Around the Rosie," because supposedly children of all cultures use a variant of that melody to taunt each other:
"Naa naa, na naa naa..."
-- Hoagie

Foreigner had a song like that too, where the last half is all "Nah naa na naa naa...." I think it was called "Lovin, Touchin, Squeezin"

Coldplay did indeed get permission to use Kraftwerk's "Computer Love" melody on "Talk". So it's kosher.

My first thought was actually Beethoven's Fifth, as it has that really strong and simple motif.
