Melody most likely to survive 1000 years?

Post by treble king » Tue May 23, 2006 10:55 am

So, of all the tunes you've ever heard, what song comes back to you again and again? The melody that you're sure is so perfect, so sublime, that it will be hummed, sung, performed on instruments made from the sun, or groaned out by radioactive mutants while staring at the falling stars.

I'm really looking for verses or choruses, though bits like Beethoven, or that John Coltrane Blue Train theme are acceptable - anything you think will have an 1000 year lifespan.

I'm thinking it's going to be "Backpack, Backpack" from Dora the Explorer.
I'm in for two, and I can pay.

For the next 1000 years, Disney will put out as many movies about little kids kicking soccer balls into adult's groins to a soundtrack featuring 'Bad to the Bone' and James Brown's 'I Feel Good'.

'Hey Jude' will never die, either.

"My Humps"

What you gon' do with all that junk?
All that junk inside your trunk?
I'ma get, get, get, get, you drunk,
Get you love drunk off my hump.
My hump, my hump, my hump, my hump, my hump,
My hump, my hump, my hump, my lovely little lumps. (Check it out)

"Yesterday" would be a pretty safe bet, seeing as how it's the most covered song of all time.

The good stuff, now that Gary Glitter is out of my system:

Brubeck's "Take Five"

Dvorak's 9th Symphony 2nd movement (Steven Foster "Going Home" deal)

Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue"

Dylan's "Visions of Johanna"

I could go on like this all day.

They will be, and they will still be insolvent.

Luckily I don't watch much TV, so that Gershwin thing hasn't yet been ruined for me.

LOL

I been bringing my 8-month old daughter out of tears and into laughter (on the changing table) with "I Feel Good" for the last six months. Works every time.
