the greatest rock and roll moment ever...

Post by Jon Nolan » Fri Oct 10, 2008 10:26 am

The part of "Hey Jude" when they build up the "better, better, better, YEAAAAAAAHHH!"' right before the Na Na's. So fucking great. It's my favorite. So great. Always makes the adrenaline fire.

True on Hey Jude, but for my money the greatest rock moment ever is Pete T slamming into the first three chords of Baba O'Riley. When I listen to it now, I get the same feeling I did when it first really sunk in when I was a teenager. The guitar solo in Cinnamon Girl is up there, too.

Ohh. . . good topic. Maybe not my "favorite" but a great moment - on Radiohead's "Nice Dream" Jonny Greenwood rips this angst filled solo - I crank it up every time.

the pickslide in 'highway to hell' is surely amongst the great rock moments of our time.

i'm not a fan of the boss, but the 4-count and subsequent band entry on the line 'the highways jammed with broken heros, etc' on 'born to run' always struck me as a pretty great rock moment as well.

bonham's entrance on 'stairway'. and the fill he does after 'to be a rock and not to rooooooooollll': Shak! duum duum boom...so simple and so good.

i could post on this topic all damn day.

Good topic! I have two greatest song moments that came to mind immediately:

1) MC5's live album, "And right now, right now, it's time to . . . KICK OUT THE JAMS [expletive]!!!", then the band lurches into those big old power chords.

2) Hendrix, Voodoo Chile, after the intro guitar line, transition to when the band and massive E chord first comes in.

For me, those moments will always be awesome, no matter how many times I hear 'em.

This thread is great and I agree with everything said. They all resonate with me.

Let me add...

Jeff's high scream at 4:48 in Jeff Buckley's "Grace" *goosebumps*
Thom's bassline that starts off Radiohead's "The National Anthem" + the fact that they had the balls to name a song "The National Anthem".

The bridge/backwards guitar solo in "I Only Said" by My Bloody Valentine. Gives me the goosebumps everytime.

you didn't by chance mean won't get fooled again do you?

I remember being sad when I learned enough about recording to hear that that scream at the end of WGFA was at least double tracked. I always thought it was one voice, and just the most awesome scream ever.
