I like how he always has one eye on that right cymbals tower, it looks like it's going to fall on him. I'm sure it's happened once or twice.

He'll never make it these days.
Ok- the current rock orthodoxy of no respect for musicianship or "chops", is fair game for criticism. But, how does having a billion cymbals and doing Garth-from-waynes-world tom fills constitiute knowing how to play? It's just flash and gimmicks. And he acknowledges his interest in showmanship so that's fine, I guess. However, not only does this guy contradict with his performance many of the things he claims to believe- that drumming should be in service to the song, for example- but damn, his snare sound is one of the freaking worst I have heard in a long time. and his chops aren't much better. Sorry, playing straight 8th notes on the kick, snare, and 1 of 15 crash cymbals over and over, is just annoying if actually implemented in a song. but in the context of these videos, it's very enjoyable to watch. So I agree with other posts who say this should be regarded as a dude having fun, more power to him. And just for the record, no I can't play drums like gene krupa. But I am not making videos of myself playing drums and putting them on youtube.

So what exactly was he doing on Craigslist?

Offering his services for birthdays, weddings and bar mitzvahs?

Drum-kit feng shui consultant?

Silly? Yes. But perhaps unexpectedly inspiring...
You are on crack,
I know, I probably am.

I'm not saying it isn't funny or even dumb. My first thought when I see his drum kit is "geez, how stupid" but then I figure if I were that guy I'd probably be pretty stoked to have that kit. I mean, I couldn't do it even if I wanted to.

10 billion cymbals on a drum set might be stupid but is it really any dumber than any of my Einst?rzende Neubauten CD's? I guess it's all a matter of perspective. But he's apparently having a good time so good for him. It's not what I would do but I can make a space for him.

I don't see any reason to turn it into a debate, though. That dude probably gets laughed at at every show he does and he still does it. He's doing what he wants and that's admirable, even if it's not what we would consider to be artistically viable.

What I don't get (among other things) is why he's got so many of the same cymbal. If you're gonna have a million cymbals, at least have ones that get different sounds. So I guess that's all about the visual effect, for him. If the intent is humor, it works!

I kind of agree with the glad he's enjoying himself sentiment, but I really hate that snare sound.

I'd pay $10 and drive 20' each way to watch him do that live, alone, on a stage for 45 minutes. Seriously.

Please explain further. You'd do it for the laugh, or cause you think he's that good, or to enjoy the audience reaction? Seriously.

He makes the point:

"My whole philosophy revolves around Showmanship
the gear, the threads, the performance, the groove and the vocal"

what does he mean by "threads?"

I'd go for the spectacle, which includes all three qualities you named. Of the three, the second ('he's that good') is the most tenuous. He is good in the sense that he dives into his chosen pursuit, however ill-advised, with great conviction and enthusiasm.

EDIT, to clarify further: Same reason I'll hang around at the park and watch a crazy near-rabid dog tear around after a frisbee. Something like that anyway.
