Rutherford Chang, pictured, has a record store setup til March with just the Beatles White Album first pressings. over 1000 copies.
It's a 'cultural art exhibit'. He's also recording 100 albums all the way through, then layering them on top of each other and pressing vinyl copies of the result.
A quarter down the linked page is the sound file of side one.

"We Buy White Albums" article and sound file of 100 recordings of the album stacked together sound file about a fourth of the way down page

Q: Why just White Album? why not Abbey road? or Rubber Soul?

A: The White Album has the best cover. I have a few copies of Abbey Road and Rubber Soul, but I keep those in my 'junk bin'.

Q: Why do you find it so great? It's a white, blank cover. Are you a minimalist?

A: I'm most interested in the albums as objects and observing how they have aged. So for me, a Beatles album with an all white cover is perfect.

Q: Do you care about the album's condition?

A: I collect numbered copies of the White Album in any condition. In fact I often find the ?poorer? condition albums more interesting.

For real. If you listen to the overlapped recordings, all 694 (edit:100) stacked, it's complete chaos by the end of Dear Prudence. ha.

I've got two white albums myself, numbered german and u.s. pressings.

..and for some reason four copies of ELP's Tarkus album.

Thanks Greg, I needed to make that link clearer. Ah, and he only stacked 100 recorded copies together in the sound file, my bad.

Wow. That _is_ wild. I wonder what his process was, exactly, to "lay 100 copies on top of another;" was that 100 turntables all at once, or 100 different records played back and then layered in a multi-track, or what?

It's so funny how on "...USSR," it only seems like a tiny bit of slight chorusing, then degrades from there into exquisite cacophony...

I've got to go home and post some pictures! I have a really hard time holding on to "valuable" vinyl because, well, I don't listen to it enough! Stuff like a Creation pressing of "Loveless" isn't worth $100 to me!

My favorite records that I own are John Hartford "Aero-Plane", Cowboy Jack Clement "All I Want To Do In Life" Elektra pressing (I bought it sealed and only opened it to have him sign it for me), London Calling original CBS pressing with all the inserts, sealed copy of Mickey Newbury "Frisco Mabel Joy"...I bought to and kept one sealed and opened the other for listening...copy of a Spinanes 7" signed by Rebecca Gates that I love because that was one of the first "indie" bands I got in to.

It's fun to go and hunt for stuff. I only really buy vinyl if it's something made before the age of cassettes or CD's though.

Go Sean. More pics are always good.

I'm considering adding another 1x5 expedit across the top of my existing setup.
It'll hold an additional 300-320 records and still allow a little wiggle room for going throught them,
but it's going to need some serious bracing. We've got a few fault lines in the area if you know what I mean.

This is a not a nightmare I want to experience.

Ikea says not to, but I'm stacking these horizontally on the wall with sections of a 30' heavy duty towing strap screwed to wall studs. I'm going to put some heavy duty reinforcement brackets in there too. Should be fine..

I'd have to imagine the majority of those records are destroyed. Warped, mildew, mold...gross...

Over the last couple of weeks I was able to track down a really clean copy of Emmit Rhodes first album, and the dB's "Repercussion".

Seriously, I'm astounded by how many times Szabo has come up on this thread. It's fantastic.

Let's make him the patron saint of this thread.

Or, we could play "6 Degrees of Gabor Szabo."

I'll start--Gabor Szabo--BB Gabor--BB King--Freddie King--Freddy Fender--Leo Fender--Deep Purple ('Maybe I'm a Leo")--Jimmi Hendrix ("Purple Haze")--Oprah Winfrey ("The Color Purple")--Toni Morrison--Jim Morrison--The Lounge Lizards--The Loungeliers--Burt Bacharach--Julie Styne--Barbara Streisand--GABOR SZABO playing guitar on Chico Hamilton's version of "People"!!!! I WIN!!!!!!!!
