Post by MrMegaEli » Tue Aug 02, 2011 11:29 am

Hey all, I'm looking for an Ampex 440 1" 8 track. I'm in Brooklyn, NY, can pick it up or pay for shipping, willing to travel a reasonable distance.

my email is eli.lief@gmail.com

Thanks! I already have a 440 2 track, and will be doing a folk and blues project on it soon, I'll try to remember to post some results.

That is the first professional tape recorder that I used. As I recall, it required copious amounts of upkeep, the calibration screws on the track alignment cards were very touchy, and when the setup was finished it sounded huge ans spacious and wonderful.

They're great! Not for a commercial studio, but I know two people who have them in NYC in studios that do put out records, but they would never part with these deck's most likely! They're fully discrete tape recorders! :D

Is it okay to ask what you paid for it? We have one we're thinking of parting with.
