FS/T: Scott Helmke "Brazil" mic (sold!)

Post by ScottEvans » Tue Nov 03, 2009 11:38 am

Handmade by Scott Helmke, who also builds the "Alice" mics that were reviewed in Tape Op a while ago. This is the same capsule but IIRC a slightly different circuit, and obviously a radically different build. It handles higher SPL's than the Alice and sounds great. I've used it on vox, guitars, and some other stuff. Cool mic, I just gotta clear out some gear.

There's more info on the mic here, and more pics: http://www.scotthelmke.com/brazil-mic.html

I bought it for $200 from Scott a few years ago, and I'll sell it for the same. I'm also interested in trades for decent mic pres and maybe a few mics.

edit - Sold to Mr. Hamilton. :hearts:

Hi Scott!

It's a little different capsule than the Alice, but sounds very similar. Slightly noiser, but able to handle LOUD sources much better. I only built a few of these Brazil mics - one guy has a couple of them, uses them on guitar cabinets for tour sound.

Oh rad, hey Scott! Thanks for the correction, I thought I remembered you saying that it was the same capsule. Regardless, it's a neat mic.

Sounds like it's going to Brooklyn shortly. Then I can start regretting my decision to sell it.
