Recommend an Inexpensive Soundproof Case For my Mac

Post by greatmagnet » Wed Jun 16, 2004 1:57 pm

I posted this in general as well, but thought I'd maybe get a hit here. Yes, I checked the archives...no worky.

My G4 is so fucking noisy it is driving me bonkers. I need to seal it away, as recording in a different room is not always an option for me. Plus, I want to haul this thing around time-to-time.

I know there are usually a few ads in the back of TapeOp for this kind of thing. I don't have a magazine handy here at my day job but I seem to remember that these generally run for about $500 and up, which seems ridiculous to me.

I'm curious if anyone knows of a producer that is less expensive, or a link to plans to build your own. I've got the tools & skills...I just need to know how to deal with the cooling/ventilation setup and how to deal with holes for the wires.

whadabout a quieter fan? that's where most of your noise is probably coming from. That would be pretty cheap. Next cheapest would be some new longer cables so you can put the mac in a closet or in the next room. It sounds like a pain, but if you think about the number of times you actually use the computer in a physical way (i.e. pressing the power button, putting in a cd) it's usually not all that often...

I know that doesn't answer your question, but it might address your problem.

Actually mine's not one of the G4s with the fault fan, but it's still a bit loud for my taste. I don't really have a spare closet to throw it in...my house is already maxed out with shite. Gotta do this!

Hey Drumsound,

How about I put YOU in another room? Like maybe a MEAT LOCKER....HANGING FROM A HOOK?!?!?!? You and all your namby-pamby college town liberal pot-smoking homosexual-coddling compatriots? When the final day of reckoning occurs He shall look down upon all you who are impure in the face of judgement and say...

Dude...that's TIGHT, bro!

Mr. Vomitt,

Me and drumsound know each other from outside the forum. That was a joke.

As most people might have guessed anyhow.
