That would be all well and good if it weren't their best album.

Sister.

Followed closely by EVOL.

Those two are all you really need.

Ok I was partially screwing around but I've been listening to Bad Moon Rising again and is really is my favorite SY album. Actually I haven't heard a lot of their nineties stuff I have a feeling I wouldn't mind it. I'm not afraid of catchy songs, believe me.

I need to get on that.

With all the great stuff they have out, I hadn't listened to NYC Ghosts and Flowers in a while, and it's really incredibly good. It's one of those albums of theirs where you I can really feel them trying to do something new/different with the sounds and words. Unlike, say, Experimental Jet Set, which I noticed nobody declared as their favorite.

I know I'm supposed to like Evol the best, but man Dirty is just the shit.
Do you not have ears? Evol is the best.

I keep seeing this thread title and thinking it means that Conan O'Brien is playing with Sonic Youth, and I get a funny mental image of Thurston and the gang, with big goofy Conan in his suit and tie and big goofy hair, rocking out a hot-rodded beat-up Jazzmaster to "Expressway To Yr Skull" or something.

Evol
Sister
Daydream Nation
Bad Moon Rising

If these were the only SY albums I ever owned (okay, and maybe the Kill Yr. Idols EP), I could live a totally happy life. Someone mentioned Experimental Jetset - I don't think it's a bad album per se, but I do think Bull in the Heather is one of the best songs of their ENTIRE career. I love that song.

I don't like experimental jetset...(apart from bull in the heather) or nyc ghosts and flowers. Everything else they've done is beyond criticism.

as a total aside... conan used to play drums. he lent a kit to some fellow harvard students once. that band was galaxie 500. if that's not enough CRED to have SY on his show, well, don't know what is.
