Lieing about Santa
I always felt like it was wrong to lie to kids about Santa. they love that guy, and then when they find out he doesn't exist they are crushed, heart-broken, decieved, and betrayed. we want them to live up to our standards, then we should too.

If I have kids they aren't gettin that Santa line from me!

I was more on the lines of - I'll agree to anything the suckers want me to, if it leads to consumptive material enrichment.trodden wrote:I was kinda like, "no shit, duh" when i found out.djdrake13 wrote:I always felt like it was wrong to lie to kids about Santa. they love that guy, and then when they find out he doesn't exist they are crushed, heart-broken, decieved, and betrayed. !

I think under the age of four or five or so it don't hurt nothin'. Don't be such a scrooge, dudes.

I feel weird lieing to my kid about it. I feel weird not being able to spell lieing, either, but anyway - it's like "I'm your father and I will always be there for you and I will never let you down and it's not us who bought you presents because we love you, it's the old man who sneaks into our house at night. Through the freaking chimney ."
I mean, that's pretty messed up.

Sure it does. Pretty profoundly, and on a whole load of different levels.coniferouspine wrote:I think under the age of four or five or so it don't hurt nothin'. Don't be such a scrooge, dudes.

I love that other people have similar viewpoints. When I say anything to my friends or girl they look at me like I'm crazy, even when they unknowingly have proved I have a valid point. For instance talking about how they find out that parents lie a lot when they get older.. I'm like hello that's what I'm saying.. but they dont' get it.

I wonder about the kids at school. If one kids knows and everyone else's parents perpetuates, who is the kid gonna believe?
I once had this problem with blow jobs. My mom told me what they were. I told the kids on the playground, and they didn't believe me. And to think, it has nothing to do with presents. Er....
So I actually thought my mom was feeding me misinformation.

Re: Lieing about Santa
I do perpetuate this Santa thing. I also talk about all the little flying monkeys that briefly appeared in Wizard of Oz and let them know that if they're bad, they get picked up by the monkeys. It works better.

I was thinking about this over christmas, it's a strange thing to do really to set up a lie that children really want to believe, only to tear it down again at a late date. Very odd, but hard not to get sucked into as a parent i guess, it's pretty universal.

I just tell them the truth - which is weird enough as-is.
