Why I'll never surf
Why I'll never surf
Aside from being sucked down to the bottom of the ocean and drowning, I'd be too afraid of seeing this:

That is freaking an incredible picture. Even though there is a huge shark in that wave, it makes me miss the waves so much right now - stuck in cornfields in Illinois.

Oh man I just saw Open Water, too. Kind of a so/so movie, really short, but it brought up every latent fear I've had of the ocean. As terrifying as all get-out.

Check out the fin shape. If I am correct it is probably a dolphin in that photo. It's definitely not a tiger, grey reef, white tip, white or any other shark I've seen.
Personally I've been in the water with sharks and it is a bit nerve wracking but nothing really to get scared about. Remember, it's what you don't see is what should scare you.
Cheers,

Yeah, I've seen that before, but I don't know that I believe it's a dolphin - just because a picture of a dolphin was taken later that day.

Since the advent of the internet, I don't know what to believe any more.

Yeah, I don't know... the scale of it looks wrong. Looks too big to be a dolphin compared to that guy. But the fin looks dolphin-like.
I was water skiing once and there were some dolphins around- all I saw were the fins and I freaked out.
There's too much stuff in water that's scary.

Dolphin fins move differently than shark fins. They sort of bob in and out of the water as their motion dictates. When sharks do remain near the surface, their fins generally stay visible and level.maz wrote:I was water skiing once and there were some dolphins around- all I saw were the fins and I freaked out.
Hey Maz, ever see any barracuda in the water in Miami?

Re: Why I'll never surf
that looks fake..i dont think sharks or dolphins hang in that part of the wave..
Re: Why I'll never surf
Well, I think that dolphins do like that part of the wave, and they jump in and out of waves all the time. Sharks...I don't know about them, though. Looks ominous whatever it is, and if it was me on the board, I'd shit myself.

I would totally shit myself, as well, but yeah, look at the tail; a shark's tail is usually as tall as its dorsal fin, and this one is either super super short or in fact horizontal like a dolphin, because it is a dolphin.
HEY! Who forgot they bag?
