Thank you. FINALLY.
I have been using ribbon mics with consoles that you can NOT turn off the phantom power for many, many years now, and if you do not patch with the mic plugged into an XLR you are fine. I never blew up a mic, and nobody seemed to believe me... :shake:

Making this a sticky....

so to clarify, as long as your not using a ribbon with a patchbay you're fine?

Yes.

That or if you had a busted XLR Cable (where pin 2 or 3 was shorting to ground)

i can't see/hear it. can someone give me the run-down??
another metal guitar tip is to put a fan in front of you while you play, so it blows your stupid long hair around like the solo is BLOWING YOU AWAY because you're a fucking tool.

Hi Ju, that marvelous. I been telling folks this for years but I am just an analogue audio guy and never thought of running a video camera. Goes to show how a picture is worth a 1000 words.

Good on you for doing this mate.

If your microphone cables are in good shape you never have to worry about the phantom power hurting the ribbon element.

There is a cheap little 3 LED cable test device that you can check all your cable with just to be sure.

We use to have the assistant engineers check all the cables once a month or so.
