Treatment!

Post by roscoenyc » Fri Jul 31, 2015 6:15 am

In our place we have various treatment products from Real Traps (their original floating membrane large bass traps), AST (703 panels), Auralex (diffusors) and some home made stuff using GIK fabric. We are in a rented space that has a concrete floor and ceiling. It's hard to drill into even with a hammer drill. I had it in my head that our mix position would sound a lot tighter with a cloud up there.
Finally dug around up there and found some hooks that I could hang it from and bought three Primacoustic Nimbus Cloud panels that link together..
The Nimbus Cloud came with every single thing needed to hang the cloud. It's super lightweight and it did the job like gangbusters. Kinda hard to believe the change after being in this location for over 6 years.

i guess i am curious if you can articulate what that means...

less low mids creating mud?

less splash in the top end from room reflections?
the new rules : there are no rules

getting rid of that first bounce off of the ceiling makes for a tighter sound. Better imaging.
It's not a bass trap, it's absorption.

Absolutely, ceiling clouds above the mix position are huge.
