I listened to We'll Bootstrap Our Way to the Stars. Nice clear recording. The music reminds me of Sea & Cake and Tortoise. Good stuff

That bass distortion on We'll Bootstrap Our Way To The Stars sounds killer! Great rhythm section. Ditto on the interwoven guitar lines. I also like the way the opening squall of City Fight Song resolves into a psych-dub shuffle. Hmmm...dub shuffle (shovel?), there's a band name... By the way, if you don't mind my asking, who's the band? Any releases? Nice work!

Dub Shovel! Is that like Blues Hammer?

Thanks for the kind words. I edited the post to reveal the band name since I was slow enough to leave it out the first time.

Thanks again. You have anything to listen to?

We'll Bootstrap. . . . fucking rocks. But, since you asked for criticism, I find at lower volume there a little low-mid rumble on my system (I'm at my work computer right now, not the studio, so it's Cambridge Soundworks 2.1 system for me), especially from the bass distortion, and it drowns out some of the more subtle guitar. Maybe some multiband compression to keep the highs open and the low under control? Or maybe just a little different balance in the bass track? Does have a nice distortion sound. Will check out the others another time.

Best,

JES,
Thanks for that. To a point, we were going for a bit of the rumble, but certainly didn't want to completely drown out the guitar. I was listening to it on our hi-fi system here at work and the gits are still there, as well as the rumble. But there is a subwoofer here on the system so that could account for the separation of frequencies.

I honestly haven't mixed much of anything to this point (and didn't mix this. Those honors go to Matt Remine and our bass player, Chad Baker). I'm a mic placer and musician right now, but working on getting my "chops" together.

Thanks again for the words.

Take care.

Let me know when the CD is out. I'd like to get a copy.
