introducing...

Post by transmothra » Tue Jul 15, 2003 1:15 am

hi, i'm new. name's jeremy and i live near Dayton, Ohio. i went to the Recording Workshop back in '91 and never got a studio job since, but did manage to land one gig doing house sound for this great little acoustic joint down in Florida that unfortunately didn't last very long.

just getting into digital recording finally. i started on a Fostex X-26 analog cassette 4-track but it died several years ago and i haven't had the chance to do a thing since (until recently). i just picked up a Roland VS880EX off eBay.

i've been reading Tape Op for about 2 years now. best magazine on the topic!

here's my gear. you can tell i am in dire need of evolution. and lots of serious cash.
  • Roland Juno 106
  • Roland TR-707
  • Roland VS-880EX
  • Yamaha 12-string
  • frankenstein (various parts) electric guitar, weird-wired by me and extremely versatile: Kahler Floyd Rose copy, Seymour Duncan Invader humbucker, 2 EMG select single coils (middle wired in reverse for twang in conjunction with another pickup), 2 2-way toggles for single coils, 3-way (off/single/double) for humbucker
  • 2 Sky SEK-14 mics (sound just like 58s - look for them!)
  • a few various effects boxes (nothing special)
  • Sony Playstation w/ Music Generator software (hey, man- it works!)
  • and soon a Midiman Audio Buddy dual preamp
so, uh, yeah... hi!
...do you believe that?

I personally don't think you need new gear. Sure, grab it, but you have the necessary equipment to make some great music. Only thing: you can probably do the mixing yourself, but I'd invest in a relationship with a mastering engineer, even one that works cheap.

Perhaps a good pair of monitors???

Hey, dude. Another JUNO user, only I had a 60... and I used to have a VS-880, dude. So, much in common, dude. And, dude, keep your nose clean... dude. :jazzman:

Am I the first to use the cool, jazz man Emoticon? I wonder...

Jeremy.....remember this and get to love peanut butter as well. Continue this path and possibly even get to hang with MarkPar and his mom on occasion.

Above all.....if you see this dude:Image .....show respect!

you're gonna be ok.

hahaha, thanks you guys!

funny thing about monitors: i prefer any old speakers/headphones that i'm familiar with. that way i have a better idea what it'll sound like in the end. the flattest things i own are a pair of AKG 44's.

and yeah, phpBB IS fast! i use it exclusively (yeah i code, too).

Juno = teh r0xorz. i've been fiddling with mine since 1987 or so. i know every possible sound it's capable of. sure, i'm a little tired of it by now, and i never cared much for the high end, but man we are close!
