Off-topic: Can you play wmv3 on os x?

Post by miamidevice » Tue Jul 15, 2003 1:29 pm

Hi,

I just downloaded all of these halfsize .wmv (wmv3) episodes of freaks and geeks off of mlnet and the video won't play on any of the 3 players I've tried (mplayer os x 2, VCL, windows media player). Does anyone know if it is possible to get these things to play properly? I friggin' love that show, and this is starting to piss me off.

No; quicktime won't play windows media files, so it's not even an option.

if you donwloaded them off a P2P, chances are they are Divx, not WMF.
It's a Win only app.

divx should play in mplayer, which is linux... i've heard that this is a problem with newer wmv files. microsoft hasn't updated the osx version of media player for over 18mos, and i think that the format has evolved somewhat. These are "halfsize" files, whatever that means... all I want to do is watch this damn TV show.

it's absolutly absurd how much resources Win-Media player takes!
why bother making a media player if you don't want mac users to use it?
