Hello all,
this is my new band's first song. Very generic pop punk. I'm not really lookin' for any opinions production/arrangment wise, although that's welcome.
I'm looking for criticism engineering wise. Please be honest. You can be brutal too. I'd much rather get that stuff than the don't hurt my feelings stuff. It'll make me better.
Oh yeah, we are looking for a singer, so there are no vocals at all.
If anyone's interested, I can tell you what i used, but I'd like your opinions to be based off of no previous knowledge.

Thank's a lot!

What did you use to record? sounds great to me. I can hear everything on my junk computer speakers. kick sounds perfect. good job.

Loud.
Nice and loud and clear. The tune reminds me of boys don't cry at the beginning, but otherwise a nice recording. Also listening to crap computer speakers. The only badness that jumps out is the tss tss of the cymbals, a little harsh, but like I said this is on computer speakers, so take it for what it's worth.

Re: First experience engineering with only my equipment!
Hey guys,
thanks for listening.
We used one of those Roland VS-880's to track drums to:
Kick Shure Beta52 into Roland pre
Snare Shure 57 into Roland pre
Toms Shure 57's into Roland pre
OH's Oktava MK012's into an ART pre
We then dumped the tracks into PTools (digi001)and overdubbed everything:
Bass Beta52&57 into digi pre
Guitars 57, MK012, &CadM27 into digi pre
I mixed in Nuendo because it gives me a significant amount more of CPU power. I used a LOT of plugins. Except on the guitar. There's nothing on the guitars, just mixed between mics.
I just recently picked up the Pre-Sonus DIGIMAX LT. I'm interested to do a shootout between my mic pres. I have 3 now! YAY!

the guitars sound great. i think maybe a fatter bass sound would be cool.
engineering wise, the drums are definitely what makes this mix not quite professional standard. (not that i m an expert , really)
it sounds like you used some sort of eq on the drums that kind of sucked the life out a little...i dont know maybe they should just be louder. maybe a little more reverb on the snare with some compression...
but overall that sounded really good
