Re: Will New Mac Work with Protools
The Mini mac's main limitation is uses a laptop harddrive which runs @ 4200 rpm so it is much slower than the standard 7200 or 10,000 rpm drives that are being used in HD systems and other DAW's.
It is a g4 proc. with a a good amount of expansion for RAM so the other specs seem to add up fine.
It would work to a certain extent, but you could run into trouble with the higher track counts with a lot of edits and such
We ran something like 24 tracks of playback and 16 tracks of record off of a ipod once so hey, you never know.
Also you could upgrade the drive to a 7200 rpm latop drive or use the Mini mac with a USB 2.0 drive instead, then you would be fine, it's faster than the Firewire and people record to FW drives all the time.
Hope this helps
