Jawbox > Cornflake Girl
I get satisfaction of three kinds. One is creating something, one is being paid for it and one is the feeling that I haven?t just been sitting on my ass all afternoon.

The Bad Plus' cover of "Heart of Glass" is pretty rad, as are their covers of "Smells like Teen Spirit" and Aphex Twin's "Flim". To hear a jazz drummer pounding out aphex twin beats is just the coolest.

John Coltrane > My Favorite Things

To take a cheesy showtune and transform it into a jazz classic is incredible.

None of my own that i can think of right now, but i have to second Ella - Sunshine... and My Favourite Things is actually, y'know... on of my favourite things.

I also like the buddy holly thing in Pavement's 'Silent Kit/d' (memory blank as to which, been a few years), not really a whole cover, but nice use IMO.
The large print giveth, and the small print taketh away.

Anything by the Bad Plus is rad. Do you have their latest record? The one with "Iron Man" on it? Holy Cow! You should also check out some of their i-tunes exclusive stuff. Their version of "Every Breath You Take" is one of the sickest things I've ever heard.

Hey Rigsby, if you haven't checked out these guys, do so NOW!

I also really, really love the Zappa "Purple Haze/Sunshine Of Your Love Medley."

If you're a power pop fan, you should really check out Jamie Hoover's newest record, "Jamie Hoo-ever." It's all covers he's done for tribute records and stuff and it's really great as a whole. My personal faves are his versions of "Theme From A Summer Place," Klaatu's "Silly Boys," and he and Don Dixon's version of Let's Active's "Horizon."

Mark Kozelek aka Red House Painters aka Sun Kil Moon does awesome covers, reconstructing familiar songs into his own. he's covered McCatrtney's silly love songs, yes's long distance run around, that paul simon song "i am a rock, i am an island". he did a whole album of acoustic ac/dc covers.

There's an out of print cd called "Rubber Souled", I got it from BMG in the early 90's. It's R&B/Soul bands form the 60's covering Beatles tunes and it's the most fucking kick ass thing ever.

There's a Swamp Dogg cover of "Lady Madonna" that has both the most rockin Hammond solo and the best scat solo you'll ever hear!!

Ike & Tina doing "Come together"
The Bar Kays
Wilson Pickett
Booker T and the MG's do a "Abbey Road" Medley

FIND THIS CD!!!!!!
