man, napoleon was boring, it had occasional funny parts that were pretty funny, but the rest was just boring, its like the previews are better than the actually movie.

Totally. Great documentary. Fantastic.

Also, seen very recently due to long summer holiday:

Pink Floyd "Live in Pompeii" (Before Roger got all upset about his childhood)

Metallica "Some kinda Monster" (So good. No, really, it is!)

Dr. No (Ken Adam sets, Sean Connery's brogue, Ursula Andress on the beach)

The Conversation (Coppola's much underated paranoia thriller made between Godfather 1 and 2)

The Ice Storm (Nails the tone of 70's sexual liberalness with dispassionate ease)

Sexy Beast (Bloody Ben Kingsley - just can't imagine more of a transformation from Gandhi to this)

Three Kings (Spike Jonez is so great in this)

Being John Malkovich (The puppeteer on the sidewalk with the little girl watching... so funny)

Dr. Strangelove (All time top ten easily. Kubrick at his most subversive)

Still on top of the DVD player ready to go:

Ran

Pi

A Decade Under the Influence

Cheers,

anyone interested in popular music should see "Off the Charts".

Without out a doubt, the most bizarre musical documentary I have seen about nobody you have ever heard of.

David Fox is pure genius.

Just a few I can think of.

I also agree- I thought this movie couldn't figure out if it was a Wes Anderson ripoff, a Beavis & Butthead live action, or a John Hughes homage.

But that's my small opinion.

city of god! (!!)

8 1/2 (bullshit film posturing. amazing long second shot though. amazing.)

pretty much anything by john waters

weathergirl - by the self proclaimed john waters of japan.

amelie

dead man (stereo required stupid white man)

I dunno, I thought shrek 2 was fuckin funny. so was Saved.

manufacturing consent

the michel gondry dvd has left a hole in my head

usual suspects has a separate Editor/composer commentary track. the fella was sorta full of himself (he did both the cutting and the scoring) but it was cool to hear that perspective

Amorres Perros (Spelling?)
This is an amazing movie. It's sort of like Goodfellas (only substitute dog fighting for drugs) meets Short Cuts (only substitute Mexico City for SoCal). I really can't say enough about it. It's enthralling.

Metallica Some Kind of Monster
Anyone who's ever been in a band will enjoy. It's really good. Lars Urlich's father is a trip.

"Praise"

"Rage"

"Naked Jane"

"Stoked"

and last night I watched "Drive: My Life in Skateboarding," the documentary about Mike Vallely's career and avocational relationship to concrete. When it's cold and dreary there's only so much Lars Von Trier one can stomach, and so some good skating movies make me feel a little more whole. Oh, so "Stoked," "Fruit of the Vine" and "Northwest," too, if you're in a similar mood.

I have become a NetFlix addict. In the Queue: "Half Japanese: the Band That Would Be King" and "Derrida and "Moog" and "Hank Williams: Honky Tonk Blues" and "Festival Express." And "The Office Season 1."
