My tastes run more towards local (New England) bands, so I'd go with Era for a Moment http://eraforamoment.com/ and "Q" http://thisisq.com/
I don't know if they'll ever get signed, but hey, it's cool seeing them in clubs, and maybe someday I can say "Hey I knew them when!!"

One of my all time favorites from back in the day was veruca salt. Stupid amount of talent in that band. Louise Post is bringing back the band as we speak and the record they did after Nina Gordon left the band is just so so awesome, a record that no joe barresi fan really ever brings up. Bob Rock, after ruining veruca salt did a solo record for Nina Gordon which is really actually kind of great in a sappy pop bob rock kind of perfect drivel way. Also a great example of how wretched autotune sounded back in the stone age of that technology. Nina Gordon recently did about the coolest shit ever, dont listen to this if you are drinking otherwise you get that milk out the nose thing...

Kim Shattuck is my hero (The Muffs). My kinda punk/power-pop. New album 'Really Really Happy' is great.
Although diluted by a new cartoon series, Puffy Ami Yumi really rock too. Very very commercial pop/rock, but backed by amazing musicians, songwriters, producers and former Jellyfish member Andy Sturmer (among others).
.....2AM in my time zone now. Can't think... probably says something great about the two I was able to come up with off the top of my head. |

I can't beleive no one has mentioned the L7 girls or even Xexene (sp?).
In SF we have Chix Pack. They totally rock! And the singer for the punk band I'm playing w/ right now is great. Not a great singer. A great rocker, _________________ I have some really horrible gear!!! |

Lots of really great suggestions already (Carla Bozulich with Ethyl Meatplow was truly an amazing thing - I truly second the suggestion) - and PJ is always amazing.
Really surprised Sleater Kinney hasn't been mentioned yet - they truly rock.
and How bout Poly Styrene from X-Ray Spex!?
& Patti Smith!
Rose and Hannah from Babe the Blue OX truly could rock the house.
Dana Ong from Slaughter Shack (late 80's Beantown)
Jarboe from the Swans
& Nina Hagen!
The womyn from W.O.D. (Womyn Of Destruction) which morphed into Estrojet which morphed into Cicaeda from Baltimore definitely rocked the house.
One of the best rock the house bands in NYC currently is lead by a chick named Jonni -
http://www.jonniandthelittlemonsters.com/
Marian from Dog Faced Hermans was one of the most amazing front person's ever.
Just cut the vinyl masters for the upcoming LP from Yellow #5 and was totally blown away - a very rare occurance considering how much music I hear in the course of the week - their bassist/vocalist Molly McGuire is definitely rockin.
http://www.yellow5.net - when their record "Demon Crossing" comes out on Scat Records - I'd say you must get it!!
Pineal Ventana from Atlanta featuring Clara Clamp and Kim Chee truly rocked.
Triki from Crash Worship defintely rocked.
Carla Buffa from Earthwurm truly is a rockin guitarist.
Too many more to think of immediately - but you get the idea.
and Sorry if so many of my references are circa 1985-1995 - but that's kind of when I was going to tons of rock shows - I've kind of toned it down recently checking out quieter shows cause I like my hearing.
Best regards,

Oh yeah, totally forgot about Pat Benatar, Exene Cervenka, Veruca Salt, and Grace Slick. What was I thinking?!?
Dave, I saw the V.Salt tour for the album after Nina Gordon left. Really good show, and a really good record. Plus I think "Blow it out your ass it's Veruca Salt" is one of my favorite album titles ever. _________________ "Jeweller, you've failed. Jeweller."

Neko Case is great. Bjork is a funky sort of goddess. Beth from The Gossip rocks the fuck out. Then there's the girl from Pretty Girls Make Graves, the peppy Japanese lady from Deerhoof, the peppy Japanese lady from Enon, the girl from the Arcade Fire... _________________ I hate my species.

Man, there have been some excellent women musicians mentioned so far.
I just thought I'd add Rickie Lee Jones. She just seems to have a true sense of cool about her delivery. She can sing me any story she wants to.
Me love her long time.
And I've always had a thing for Mary Timmony. _________________ Cheap, Fast, and Dirty |
