I downloaded some AIFs (16/44.1) onto a PC and put them on disc, when i try to import them into VST on my mac they're not recognised, i also tried dropping them straight to the audio pool and no joy there either. I'm baffled as to what to do to get them in there. They play in iTunes and whatnot. Any suggestions?

Thanks guys.

can you save them as wave files on the pc before burning a disc? just a thought--maybe VST on the the mac is expecting a PC file to be a wav and not recognizing it as aif. maybe it actually is not an aif or somewhat improperly formatted aif. itunes may have looser 'regulations' as to what it will play and what it won't. i really have no idea, but just trying it a different way might be a good place to start.

Thanks for the reply. I don't have anything on the PC to change the file type, what's free and easy to do this with?

goldwave is my goto translator for windows
the demo mode used to be pretty lenient
i am not sure if the new versions identify the wav form types
it used to be 16 bit sign extend to reversed motorla format
(or something like that)

if you have a linux machine you should try sox
sox file.wav file.aiff
will take care of the xlation

dont have a mac

I'm a little confused by some of the reply, but it is windows that i downloaded it on. Can anyone suggest where i can convert these files rather than the vastly long way round of burning them as audio and toasting them to the mac? There's about 2.5 gigs of these samples, so that'd take me forever. A link to something free would be perfect if anyone knows one.

Help! Yelp!

getting back to basics...
are you sure they are aiff files?
if they can be played on the ipod they could be compressed files
if they are compressed -
change the extension to .mp4 for pc
.m4a for mac

just a wild guess

oh... i forgot
an give the goldwave a try (if they are not compressed) it can change any format to any format
you can specify the byte arrangement of the input until you get a good sound

The extension says aiff and they seem about the right size to be aiffs and not be compressed, it wasn't an iPod, iTunes on a mac, it pretty much plays anything i put in there, aiffs, wavs, mp3s etc etc. I'll google goldwave, thanks for that, don't suppose you have a link in case it's tricky to find?
