Capacitor types in guitar amps.

Post by winky dinglehoffer » Wed Nov 02, 2005 10:03 pm

I've been futzing around with an old tube PA amp that I'm turning into a guitar amp--it's sounding good, but it's an ongoing project. Anyway, three or four of the caps in the signal path are ceramics--.01 uf, +80%/-20%, ceramic discs. I'm debating on replacing them, but was wondering if folks had feelings about cap types in their guitar amps. Anybody have preferences? Ceramics? poly? Mica?

try different types, if they are in the tone stack you'll definitley hear a difference without question. I think lots of folks tend to credit a lot of the marshall tonestack sound to ceramic caps. I personally like other types, plug a few in there and see what suits you best.
