One mic? I'd definately go for an LDC with at least cardoid, hypercardoid and omni settings.
The large print giveth, and the small print taketh away.

this is exactly how I started...an mbox and one LDC. I went with the 414, but I really have grown to love the ksm 44. It is brighter than the 414. It works better with the dull transparent pres in the mbox.

I also agree that having a matched pair is a whole lot more fun. I am sold on the mc012's that you can get from the sound room. If you have $1000 for the coles...skip the coles and spend $500 on the mc012's and then get a 4050 or a 4047.....I've heard amazing thinks about the ADK tube mics.

A friend of mine has one of the ADK mics...I looked at their site and think it is the TC51. He can't stop using it on vocals both female and male voices. He also uses it out infront of the kick sometimes. Ofcourse he is running it through a DW Fearn..............

I hope to borrow it soon. I can post some reactions later.
