Pro Tools 7 tdm. Yay or nay?

Post by the riff » Sun Nov 06, 2005 2:50 am

Been thinking of upgrading from 6.9 but it's pretty damn pricey. Anyone have any experience with it yet? I've been looking for some online reviews but haven't seen anything yet.

I thought it wasn't out yet? My friend said she's able to get it for free cuz she bout 6.9.2 after september or somethin like that, and people who did so would be allowed to download pt 7 for free. maybe it's just an LE thing?

I havent even bothered to read about it yet, like what is different...

I JUST finally got used to all the new shizzle in 6.9 TDM, and it WORKS, so I usually wait a minute before diving in. i will probably wait for 7.2......

tdm is out, LE next week, M-powered the week after...

7 looks like lot's of midi songwriterish stuff, 'performance enhancements', support for dual processors, more busses in LE, new menu structure... seems like mostly marketing to me but I'll proly give em another hundred bucks.

More loop-type stuff too. Better MIDI. MIDI tracks will pass audio as well as store MIDI notes. If you use MIDI this is a better thing. Notice it coincided with the new Mbox, which has MIDI...

I was hoping for better midi. I just started to use midi in pro tools last week, since I had to run BFD to do some drums for a guy that didn't have a drummer. What a nightmare pro tools midi is. Well, coming from a Cubase world anyway. I might have to give Digi some money this week!

FWIW, some third party plug-ins are not working in PT 7 yet.

For LE, the RTAS processor improvements are supposed to be significant...I'd Probably wait a week or two and read the DUC postings to see what kinds of problems are out there for people and if it will cause you serious hassles to your workflow...

Also, Soundtoys is supposed to have PT7 support for mac by the end of the month (although they seem to be a bit later on most of their updates than they intend to be)... Sony Oxford is supposed to be out by week's end... URS plugs and Crane song already have updates... just depends on what you use...

here's what's compatible now and what will require download updates...
