cable repair

Post by pandatone » Tue Nov 08, 2005 11:25 am

hi, in an attempt to not die. having been struck by the fear via "soundguy".
i have a severed power cable. bummer. so i was just going to splice it. as in, strip each cable. connect like colors [twist 'em], wrap each in electrial tape, then wrap all 3 back together with more electrical tape. thing hasn't been plugged in in weeks. and no tubes or anything. actually there seems to be almost nothing in it. input, wire, output. kosher?

anyways.. check out my blog [in my sig] for pics of the inside of it [peavey MPA 700T modular architectural preamp] if your curious.

it probably wouldn't be super dangerous to re-splice and wrap in electrical tape (I've done it before, salvaging some extension cords).

but since you're already into the guts, why not get a fresh three-conductor power cable, and wire it into the points of origin?

not safe as in fire? i was thinking of just splicing to check it out. but then replacing it fully before really putting it into any kind of use.
