Guitar hum - grounding?
Guitar hum - grounding?
Edit: I'm pretty sure its the guitar ... see post below.
I am so angry at this hum. Regardless of what guitar I use, or what cable (which I thought may have been the problem... nope!) I start getting hum after a few minutes of having my amp on, which is proportional in volume to the volume knob on my guitar. Thing is, it goes away when I touch a metal part (standby switch, etc) on my amp. Grounding? I dunno how to fix this or whats going on, its just driving me nuts as the amp (musicman 210hd130) and pickups (bill lawrence) are dead quiet apart from this.
I'd really appreciate any help!
Mike

unplug your guitar from the amp. With nothing plugged into the input of the amplifier turn it up. Does it still hum?

Nope, good point. As I said above, its the guitar thats humming. even with the bill lawrence pickups, so it must be the wiring. I found a page for sheilding and rewiring a strat for less hum but lack the aptitude to adapt it to my washburn.. ugh. Thanks

Remember sigle coil pickups will buzz/hum. If this is the problem turn around on axis and find the quiet direction.
One side note: Step away from the amp. I'm amazed how many players don't notice that getting right up on it generates buzz...
