good 4track 1/2 inch or 1 inch for 1k?

Post by bantam » Mon Nov 14, 2005 7:51 pm

i need help with some basics. I want to add tracking drums on tape to my PT rig. I can get away with 4 tracks but i want something that will sound decent.

i know that i need to consider tape speed ips, and tape format (1/4,1/2 inch) but which decks do i have a good chance of finding that have a pretty good reputation. i know that otari studer and ampex are decent but where do i go model wise for under 1k?

thanks

You can definitely find a very nice Otari MTR-10 or MTR-12 1/2" 4 trk. for under $1000. I've got a lot of use out of my Otari 5050 Mk.III 1/2" 4 trk and it cost me around $400 in excellent condition.
