linkowitz's drawing of his mod vs. others

Post by pietro79 » Sat Nov 05, 2005 5:12 pm

hey,

I'm ready to try out the famous linkowitz mod for the wm-60ay electret (made one mic without the mod, too noisy, distorts rather easily)

taking a look at his drawing (the first one attached here), he has a 10k resistor connecting terminal 2 on the electret to terminal 3...

From http://www.linkwitzlab.com/sys_test.htm#Mic ("microph1.gif")

-------
but two different schematics that I've found on the web that say they are linkowitz's mod exclude this resistor without comment as to why...

this one's from http://www.mp3forkidz.com/mic/mod.html

this one's from http://www.pitt.edu/~szekeres/mic/mods.htm ("DIAGRAMS")

anyone tried this mod out? anyone know what this difference is for? If there was only one, it might look like a mistake on the part of the schematic drawer, but there are two different schematics that excluded this resistor...

Please enlighten!

Pietro

oops I the resistor I meant to say was excluded was not the one that joins terminals 2 & 3 (they all have that one)...I meant the other one (on linkwitz's own drawing) on the right, just beside the amp symbol

That resistor would drain off DC offset before the "amp of some sort" symbol.

A really in depth discussion about small diaphragm electret condenser capsules, the Linkwitz mod and an adaptation of the Behringer ECM800 was lead by Marik in this thread on Home Recording:

This is really the bible on Linkwitz mods
